No Fillers! – Review : Paula’s Choice RESIST Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum All Skin Types

Oh my fair maidens, would you accept my apologies for the lack of updates?

But no point to dwell on whiny sentiments of what could or couldn’t have, lets focus on what’s essential of key knowledge and exploration in your skincare and all the products in the market.

I have a slutty appetite when it comes to skincare.  My eyes are like a dominant predator that wouldn’t stop scanning for the next best thing, even though to the best of my knowledge, I am using what’s best.  And I’m pretty proud to say the products I use have been carefully screened through and are of quality products.  That said I’m also really lucky that the counter products just don’t gel with me.  I have tried and yes I have, but my skin protested against Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex and it’s CyberWhite Brilliant Cells in such unhealthy fashion, I just look like a kid with bad diets.  Now I really don’t agree with the jives about “if your skin gets pimplish, that means it’s working…” Bullshit.

A truly holistic product that passes all bench wouldn’t need to summon pimples, be it the phase does pass or not, a few hundred dollars products shouldn’t have triggered nasty side effects.  But that’s nothing to what I have a problem with, many products across the market have unwanted fillers, and endless combinations of silicones that’s just uncalled for in boosting your skin’s health.  I hate having a sugarcoated illusion of how smooth my skin is.  And a silicone smoothed out product that feels good on your fingertips may just mislead you into thinking “wow this product is so smooth it makes my face smooth too!”  I’m not too  much of an organic skincare fascist that bans all things unnatural, I accept the existence of parabens, glycols, silicones in the formulas.  But if a look across the ingredient lists just read endless versions of cancer causing ingredients, ingredients with no profound effects in caring your skin, well, buckle up and do better than that, and pete’s sake, be honest, it’s so sickening to have consumers thinking “this product is sooooo…. gooooood!!!”

With this notion it led me to this product a few months back, by Paula’s Choice.  It is a serum from it’s RESIST line, that boasts the package of Super Antioxidant ingredients.  Also I chose it for my combi/oily skin, cause very often rich and skin saving serums are always more suitable for dry skin.  Without further ado, lets have a quick look at the official product description :

“What makes this product unique? RESIST Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum utilizes an innovative blend of ingredients that research has proven aging skin needs to look younger and feel its healthy best. Stabilized Vitamin C plus potent antioxidants in a silky base join ingredients that repair damaged cells and rebuild skin’s protective barrier so it functions optimally. This state-of-the-art serum efficiently addresses multiple issues that cause skin to look wrinkled while reducing inflammation and the visible effects of sun damage. This product is 100% fragrance- and colorant-free. Who is this product for? RESIST Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum works great on all skin types concerned with reducing signs of aging. It is especially suitable for normal to dry or combination skin types. How should this product be used? RESIST Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum can be used once or twice daily, as desired. For best results, apply before or after Paula’s Choice RESIST Barrier Repair Moisturizer. At night, smooth a few drops onto skin after cleansing, toning (optional), and exfoliating. May be applied under or over moisturizer. For daytime, wear under a product with SPF 15 or greater. Works beautifully under makeup and is suitable for use around the eyes.”

The Ingredients

Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone (silicone slip agents/suspending agents), Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (stabilized vitamin C/antioxidant), Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 (cell-communicating ingredient), Ceramide 3 (skin-repairing ingredient), Tocotrienols, Tocopherols (vitamin E/antioxidants), Ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10/antioxidant), Thioctic Acid (alpha lipoic acid/antioxidant), Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E/antioxidant), Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (stabilized vitamin C/antioxidant), Ferulic Acid, Caffeic Acid (antioxidants), Beta-Glucan (anti-irritant), Superoxide Dismutase (antioxidant), ), Epigallocatechin Gallate (green tea-derived antioxidant), Ergothioneine (mushroom-derived antioxidant), Glutathione (fruit-derived antioxidant), Xanthophyll (antioxidant pigment), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract (antioxidant), Glycerin (skin-identical ingredient), Arctostaphylos Uva Ursi Leaf Extract (anti-inflammatory agent), Lupinus Albus Seed Extract, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract (antioxidants), Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil (emollient), Phenoxyethanol (preservative).

The Decision

Now I said silicones are uncalled for.  And it was not reassuring seeing silicone as the 2nd top ingredient, but as long as it’s not a long list of combination of silicones that feed illusions to consumers, I’m okay with that.  Also with a bit of reading up on articles and up until a clinical data states Dimethicone is non-comedogenic (doesn’t clog pores, produce white/black heads) and is hypoallergenic.  Well that moment it had me sold.

You see for yourself how this serum is a powerhouse of all the goodies in skincare la-la land.  And it was priced at RM87.++ after 20% discount!  How could you say no to that?

Clicked, and it’s done.

The Experience

Well you can definitely feel the dimethicone as it is smooth, and a lil sticky too.  Like when you have the product in between your fingers and you break apart you’ll see silky strands getting separated.

I have been a good church boy saying my prayers using this product without substituting for any.  Yet again it is really the sole belief in the product claims, its listed ingredients that I count my faith on.  Because honestly, with serum packed with Super Antioxidants, which would be more suited for the defense against first sign of aging.  That means aging prevention in symptoms.  That means you use this knowing there are a bit of tell tale signs of aging, yet you are and don’t look old.  You consume powerhouse of antioxidants topically or orally to combat the first sign of aging, delaying the onset.

So there really isn’t any before/after drastic effect I can show you.  Unless there is a skin graft test that tests the level of active anti-oxidants and measure the active free radicals in epidermis.  Only then we can truly know, if these antioxidants have been absorbed and been functioning in my skin.

And that is why I use this vigorously because as it is more a long maintenance battle, hopefully these anti-oxidants keep the signs of aging at bay, for eternity.

Few things that I can point out are :

  • The texture is smooth yet sticky, it gets quickly absorbed into your skin.
  • It does not leave any grease feeling at all.
  • Does not provide any hydration.  If you’re looking for hydrating serum, keep hunting.
  • Ingredients are genuinely antioxidants.  Especially good for people with high level free radicals, eg. smokers.
  • It’s a genuine product at such a humble price!
  • 30ml only, but can go on for quite a while if you dispense the product appropriately.
  • okay lastly, again, it does not provide hydration.  Your skin doesn’t get extra hydration from it in winter.  It doesn’t sooth you down, charm you silly with hydration.

I”m very sleepy now.  So will do a lazy thing and steal pic.

Review : Bio-Essence ATP V Face Series

Hello guys,

Hope by now you are used to my inconsistent updates.  This product series have been parked in my to-do-list for ages and I have never seemed to get about doing it.  Well, here it is.  Calling out to Guardian and Watsons shoppers, I hope you read this cause this will be a very good heads-up.

Bio-Essence ATP V Face Series

Bio-Essence ATP V Face Series

To make this review really straight forward, I’mma review the products one by one and tell you where your money is worth, cutting out the sentimental crap.  I know, it’s crazy, it seems like I am adopting the full series as my main facial regime but I can tell you, it is not.  So I will now set myself a goal to post up a youtube video on my facial regime.  Now that it’s said, I need to keep my promises.  So keep watching this space, there’s much to come!

Bio-Essence Deep Cleansing Milk With ATP

Bio-Essence Deep Cleansing Milk With ATP

Bio-Essence Deep Cleansing Milk With ATP

By normal consensus milk cleansers serve as a makeup remover, and yet I truly believe, and always stress on the importance of using milk cleanser before washing your face, to get rid of your make-up, and dirt/dust accumulated over a day of fieldwork.  Now this Bio-Essence Deep Cleansing Milk has been my choice of cleanser for the past 1 year because, no. 1) it is economical compared to other milk cleansers from Eucerin, Loreal etc.  It is about RM20++.  And it lasts for a decent long time.  Related Post Here.

Now, the efficacy and the experience :

In terms of efficacy, defined as how much dirt is gotten rid of by how much stain is shown on the cotton pad.  With my previous Body Shop Seaweed Cleansing Milk, Bio-Essence Cleansing Milk fares at best as average in terms of dirt/dust removal, I have already made comparisons between the two in the related post.  First of all, the texture has a cream like thickness.  So when you dispense the product onto your cotton pad and start swiping away on your face, by 1st count you will see stains on your cotton pad.  But it may not mean that your face is totally cleansed, because the viscosity is so cream-thick, sometimes I wonder am I actually rubbing the creamy product into my pores n what not.

Conclusion

It is worth a buy because it’s economical.  And because you will be washing your face afterwards with a proper cleanser (Double Cleansing) so you can let that flaw mentioned above skipped.

So my verdict is : BUY.

Bio-Essence Radiant Youth Essence With ATP

Bio-Essence Radiant Youth Essence With ATP

Bio-Essence Radiant Youth Essence With ATP

I actually, love this product.  It is so practical.  But my usage for this product is completely different than it is intended.  I first was exposed to this product when I was in GZ with my sis and I saw a bottle on her shelf.  Curious, I used it and the substance is oily, but it was the turn of winter at that point so it actually felt really good after the oily-residue dries up.  However, when I come back to Malaysia, I knew in my guts that this would not work on my face.  So, what do I do with it?  I use it on my neck!  I do neck lifting massage every day and night so this serves just right for my purpose.  Just half a pump is literally more than enough for half of your neck, and this provides the lubrication needed in lifting massage.  Anything less you are dragging and tugging the skin which may cause the opposite effect of lifting.

Bio-Essence Radiant Youth Essence With ATP - The texture, oily and lubricating.

Bio-Essence Radiant Youth Essence With ATP – The texture, oily and lubricating.

The Verdict

If you do neck lifting massage and you need an oily product for lubrication, this is it.  It is not too expensive, probably priced between RM50++ to RM80++.  I can’t remember.  Half a pump is more than enough for half of your neck, and lubrication goes on long enough for the repetition needed in neck lifting massage.

Use it for Face? – Don’t Buy.  Unless you have super dry skin in winter.

Use it for Massage?  BUY.  A little goes a long way, so practical so beautiful.

Bio-Cell Repair Rejuvenating Serum

Bio-Cell Repair Rejuvenating Serum

Bio-Cell Repair Rejuvenating Serum

I bought this product because I was slowly getting sucked into Bio-Essence.  And I was also running out of a hydrating serum/essence before my moisturiser.  So, owning already the essence, and they are paired in Bio-Essence Skincare Program, it only made sense this would be my choice of hydrating essence, before moisturiser.

The Experience

Bio-Cell Repair Rejuvenating Serum - The Texture

Bio-Cell Repair Rejuvenating Serum – The Texture

I’m telling you, this product, it never runs out!  It’s bizarre.  Everyday, half a pump it’s enough to spread across the whole face.  It’s so easily spreadable.  But this product is practically useless.  It does nothing, there’s no improvement in hydration, not to even mention any of its cell repairing benefits so it claims, or any rejuvenation in my skin.  And since no benefits are seen after 5 mths use, I wonder if it’s just butylene glycol and some petroleum based ingredient in it.  I bought it in early November, and until this day, it’s not finished yet!  And I was using it day and night.  I didn’t like the product so I just wanted to quickly finish it, get over it, so I can buy my next obsession.  But it just never finishes.  Finally fed up, now I use this on my neck too.  Haha, man, pampered neck.

The Verdict

DON’T.BUY.

Bio-Cell Repair Rejuvenating Serum

Bio-Essence Face Lifting Cream with Pine Pollen

The Experience

I initially bought it for, really, my neck.  Since my neck is not prone to any break outs, I was looking for a moisturising cream, to keep my neck lines in check.  It wasn’t too expensive.  So I guess it serves to purpose, minimizing and diminishing fine lines.  The cream is really heavy, really really heavy, reminds me of the older facial creams in the early 90s.  And the cream doesn’t spread too well.  The cream is so heavy, acne-break outs are pretty inevitable.

Bio-Essence Face Lifting Cream - The Texture. The Spatula is not provided in the package.

Bio-Essence Face Lifting Cream – The Texture. The Spatula is not provided in the package.

The Verdict

Super Dry Skin and you want a slim face – BUY.

Need a heavy cream for your neck creases – BUY.

And last but not least, my most neglected product on the shelf :

Bio-Essence Complete Nourishing Sleeping Mask

Bio-Essence Complete Nourishing Sleeping Mask

Bio-Essence Complete Nourishing Sleeping Mask

The Experience

I got this as a hand-me-down from my sister.  As a sleeping mask, I don’t particularly like it.  It the feel of a layer of wax across the face.  Given time the sensation would go away.  And the next morning you do wake up with a hydrated and brightened face.  So, it’s a nice product, minus the waxy feeling on your face.

The Verdict

And if you can look past that flaw, and you just want the hydration and supple skin the next morning, you can definitely try this.  BUY.  But after trying for few days and you feel like you can’t get past that waxy feel, well my friend, that’s a huge jar to go.

*** Foot Note : Another promise out to y’all, since now you know I use 3 products on my neck alone, I will post up a video on how to achieve V Shaped Face.  Keep this space watched!

Review : Garden of Eden Age Defense Serum

Oh boy Oh boy!  I am so excited about this serum!  And I told myself, If i don’t do it now and postpone the review on this blog.  I will set my hair on fire, not.

But truly truly I so very excite!  First of all, what pegged my interest in this is … wait for it… wait for it…  It’s a Malaysian made product!!  Sold in Guardians, pharmacies and I believe Watsons too.

Garden of Eden - Age Defense Serum

Garden of Eden – Age Defense Serum

The Reason is I get super excited when I see a Malaysian Made Product that is truly genuine.  It is manufactured in Malaysia, by Maxwell Pharmacy Sdn Bhd.

So having way too much available time, I study every single product there is on the shelf.  I do this weekly, twice a week sometimes.  Depending on where I am.  So I chanced upon this product and it pegged my curiousity.

Without much babbling..

Now, The Ingredients :

Grape Seed Oil, Natural Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol), Grapefruit Essential oil and Medium-chain Triglycerides.

Note : Natural Vitamin E is 36% more potent and better absorbed than Synthetic Vitamin E.

My Thoughts

Garden of Eden - Age Defense Serum

Garden of Eden – Age Defense Serum

This is what I”m so impressed with, it’s very simple.  The marketing message tallies with the right group of audience, which are people like me, late 20s-early 30s, who want to defy the first sign of aging.  That is why hardcore products from Estee Lauder or Lancome may not work for us, cause they are for matured skin type, these products hype up the cells.  We don’t need that.  We need good proven anti oxidants, massacre ’em free radicals.  That’s what is really appropriate for us in our late 20s-early 30s.

And the formula’s so simple, Grapde Seed Oil, Natural Vit E, not synthetic ones! Grapefruit Essential Oil and Triglycerides! Triglycerides!  a form of fatty acid, better lipid absorption!

No chemical fillers, no paraben, no funny mumbo jumbo I don’t understand.  Oh yeah, because it’s free from everything, it’s suitable for sensitive skin too.

Even though it calls itself a serum, but it is actually the same as the new skincare fad, beauty oil.

Pump Application, now where's my lab coat?

Pump Application, now where’s my lab coat?

The Experience

Oh man, I use it so ever sparsely.  I watched a youtube video somewhere that deals with oil based serum like this, so the trick is to use only 3-5 drops (not pumps), dispense it on your fingers and rub til it’s warm, and glide them across your face.  I suggest maybe 3 drops across your face, and another 2 drops across your forehead.  Well, maybe I just have a huge forehead….

The Texture

The Texture – That’s 2 drops of the product.

2 droplets of product when rubbed.

2 droplets of product when rubbed.

The Conclusion

I’ve only used this product for the 2nd day, lets pray it doesn’t break me out.  I am fearful of oily substance like that.  But I think when used correctly and sparsely, it will be alright.  Do look it up, if you’re looking for the next product to step up on your usual 3 steps regime,  give this a go.  It’s priced at RM33.++ at 5ml.  If it fails, meh, I’ll just use it on my hands and see if my hands sparkle after the bottle.

Recommended : Dry-Combi, Normal Skin – Yes.  Combi-oily, Oily, Acne Prone – Nah, you have better priorities in your skincare treatment goals.

The Late Band Wagon – Review : Hada Labo ES Lotion (Sensitive Skin)

Hello, if I ever have a reader out there, I apologize for the posts are getting sparse in between.  I am simply… internet-less.  You wouldn’t have thought that, in this day and age, right?

Alas, it’s true… it’s true.  Having stable internet access is 2nd to having my slavery-salary in my bank account, almost that.

Yet, I shall not dread on the things irrelevant, focus, is the name of the game.

Sudden HARLEM SHAKE

oh my god… i actually went off to browse memes pages.  I thought adults outgrow ADD!!!

Seriously, back to business.  Sigh…

I am sooooooo late for this Hada Labo band wagon, so late like you just don’t bother to get up anymore and sleep through it, call your boss again when you’re up.  I do that so often.  Ignore all calls, sleep at all costs!

I wanna rant about this whole silicone based serum business perpetuating all over our skincare.  I wanna rant about having Retinol-A based lotion/serum but never caution consumers that they are not suitable for day use.  I wanna rant about serums/essence/potions that have glycolic acid or other forms of AHA in their “renewing serum” or some other fancy terms but never caution the users about increased photo sensitivity.  Seriously, I frown upon these and it maddens me now as I’m laying it out in my head.  Thankfully I know enough to avoid them.  I am far from an expert, just an amateur enthusiast.

But recently as I’ve been hopping around products, I really like my softener and I think it’s a keeper, but I thought I needed a serum/essence that is stronger, day or night use.  Well, Estee Lauder n Lancome failed.  And I was left with no where to turn.  Checked out Origins Planscription Anti Aging Serum and no offence, the key ingredients make me puke.  No way am I gonna be paying that amount of money for something so mundane, it’s daylight robbery!  The website lists Glycerin, Dimethicone and African Anoegeissus Tree Bark Extract as Key Ingredients?  Come on, you gotta be kidding me.  What Extract is that?  Dubious at best!  Glycerin?  DIMETHICONE?  You call them KEY moisturizing agents?  And your only anti-aging anti-oxidant is a tree bark extract, unheard of but seen in some women in ulu village, without sufficient studies?  Don’t get me wrong, Gycerin is crucial in every single product, in every single formula.  Dimethicone is a good binding agent that is noncomedogenic, frequently found in many products, no effects in anti-aging but, harmless stuff.  My problem is with listing these 2 as the main ingredients and you call it an ANTI-AGING SERUM.  How does that suffice?  How does that qualify?

Too much’s been said, I raised my case.  Please prove me wrong, cause if you can come back with enough evidence to counter my boiled up self righteous rants, you are actually teaching me something, and my judgment may have been missed due to my ignorance.  But for now, Court shall proceed.

Another product that sparked my whole awareness with these fake claims, is Melaleuca Timeless Anti Aging Serum.  Again, this is a direct selling brand that harps on, lives and breathes on the claims that they are 100% organic, non toxic and all that jambo, words more pure than the virgin’s hole.  Sounds so flipping awesome right?  I placed an order for 2 immediately.

Wait, before that, lemme just show you how it’s PHRASED.  I’ll just do a cut-n-paste here :

“The cutting-edge ingredients in Timeless target tell-tale sun spots, discoloration, and uneven skin tone while reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Stable antioxidant vitamins C and E and patented AHCare® replenish skin and encourage rapid cell turnover, decreasing the number, size, and intensity of dark spots for a luminous, even complexion.”

Well, sounds good right?  You can see where the claims r coming from, since it’s their unique AHCare Patent, you would associate AH with AHA, which is an exfoliant, kill the dead cells, with antioxidants like Vit C n E, they replenish skin, and the AHA (supposed) encourages rapid cell turnover.

There, I”m pretty much sold.  Guess they have the whole concept worked out.  Well again, if it’s true AHA containing serum, they failed to mention… or at least whisper in your ears… “hey… hey girl… don’t.. don’t use it in the morning”

But by the next page, the ingredients list…. W.O.F-FIN.A.H

Checkkit,

quoted.right.from.the.page.  I don’t know 70% of what they are, but look look, within the first 3 lines, how many Dimethicone, or silicone based substance appeared, in just 3 F-FIN lines???  If it’s truly an AHA based anti-aging serum, I can only identify Lactic Acid here!  The rest of the things, all mumbo jumbos to me, I seriously don’t know what they are.  The au-naturale plant extracts, oh yeah, they do have, but all at the bottom of the lists.  Maybe I’m too ignorant to judge as I cannot factually identify the everything else that I don’t know.

REFERENCE be found here.

So if there’s ever a formulator/biochem engineer that would like to educate my half baked internet knowledge?  Please please come and educate me.

So much babbling as if I”m protesting on Occupy Wall Street, wait, is it still happening?  I just detest the fact that these companies put in so much silicone based deriatives which are basically fillers.  They fill out your pores, they fill out wrinkles.  And the texture of silicones feel good on your hands.  So when you apply it, of course you get an instant smoothen face, pores look smaller and all.  But that is all an illusion, and these big cosmeceutical companies harp and prey on the less exposed, consumers that go by brands/smell/feel/and advertising claims.  I think in the consumer demographic, an unworthy ingredient obsessed stalker like me are probably <10%, which is not enough for the tip of the critical mass.

These dimethicones n silicones fillers are great!  I hunt down products with their contents, but, as COSMETICS!!  Filling out wrinkles and pores temporarily is what COSMETICS do, not SKINCARE!  They are what I’d pay for a high price, which by the end of the day I triple cleanse them off my face!  Not what I go to bed with thinking, OH MY FACE IS SO SUPERCHARGED WITH AWESOMENESS RIGHT NOW.

THat’s it man… that’s it.  I’m f-fin sore from this verbal diarrhea.  Oh wait, I was supposed to do a revIEW on WHAT again???

Short Post : Advance Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex Samples

Bought Matte Perfecting Primer (Will do a review on it soon) from the local Estee Lauder Counter in Parkson, I was given 5 sachets of this Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex Samples.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Samples

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Samples

The lady told me that each sachet is equivalent to 1 actual pump, so it is in my duty to not just smear on “enough” but to empty out the whole content and rub/pat on your face until fully absorbed.

I did as told.  And JESUS!  I gotta tell you, much like most of the opinions on MAU, your skin is just oh, so beautiful the next day.  Now it’s beyond my limit to tell you how it achieves it but it is glorious healthy, glowly skin.  It’s beautiful.

But, after 2 sachets which I only use at night, I had pimples breaking out.  Okay, I stopped.  Then I thought, how about I skim on the serum and just use as “needed” instead of emptying the whole sachet.  1 more attempt by that method, my face just … started to have funny allergies/red dots/over the cheeks.

So, guess what, now this super duper uber crazy serum is now used on my neck.

Just my luck I guess, such beautiful serum, but just doesn’t work for me.  Same as Genifique from Lancome, that failed too.  Blemishes popped out all over my face and it took three 2-weeks interval facials to finally get rid of everything brewing under my skin.  And I only used that for 6 days.

Conclusion

Two star products from reputable Estee Lauder and Lancome gives me reactions.  I have only 1 final bullet in mind which is Clarins Double Serum.  Man, all in the name of age-fighting.

That is all, ladies, or is it?

Help! My skin’s under attack!

Oh the distress I’m under!

I don’t know what’s going on, it’s like my skin’s going through a winter phase on its own, despite the humid weather in Malaysia, though it has been a little chilly these days.  My only guess is I have been traveling 3 weeks straight consecutively and so ever blasted by indoor air conditioning.

This has never really happened before but my skin all over, from my face to every other parts of my skin, is DRY DRY DRY.  And mind you, I use really pharmaceutical grade lotions and creams only.  A concoction of Physiogel, Cetaphil, Rosken and body wash entails Sebamed.  Nothing can go wrong, right? RIGHT?

Cetaphil Intensive Moisturising CreamRosken Skin Repair Dry Skin CreamPhysiogel Lotion

Cetaphil Intensive Moisturising Cream
Rosken Skin Repair Dry Skin Cream

– Note that all of them are indicated for dry to very dry, dry to extra dry.

Just last week one morning, I used my Sebamed cleanser and I got lazy with the rest of the applications, within 5 hours, fine lines surfaced on my face!  My skin just looked so harsh and brittle.  Eww, THE HORROR… (tongue rolls out)

The Horrible Fine Lines

The Horrible Fine Lines

And it is sooooo NOT helping that, me and my stupid decision to “pack light”, I ended up not bringing any of my serum/essence/softener.  I can only rely on sheet masks to get myself through.

How bad does the skin get?

Okay, this is what went down.  Last week, I stayed with a couple of roomies that really enjoyed the bliss of air conditioning.  That night before dinner, we headed over to Parkson (again, mega air conditioning in the mall), and guess what, my skin broke by 7pm!  By that point whatever lipid, water was just dried out of my body.  My skin was no more than a 3000yr old mummy discovered in the desert.

Since it’s gonna be a few more days before I head back to the comfort of home, I bought myself some emergency kit.

3W Clinic Snail Mucus Lift EssenceHamilton Skintherapy Cream (Intense Moisturiser)

3W Clinic Snail Mucus Lift Essence
Hamilton Skintherapy Cream (Intense Moisturiser)

The Hydration Kit

  • 3W CLINIC SNAIL MUCUS LIFT ESSENCE – There’s so much rage with snail mucus.  When I first saw it I thought they used live snails in their potions.  Somewhere I read it has strong anti-inflammatory effect (I’m actually breaking out from Biotherm Aquasource, will blog about it, soon), I thought this would be a good way to go.
  • HAMILTON SKINTHERAPY CREAM (INTENSE MOISTURISER) – 10% Urea.  Hmm, really?  Splashing urine excrete on skin, did I just get a snake bite?  Here’s the highlight, it is FREE from Fragrance, Colour, lanolin, Propylene Gycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Sodium Laureth Sulphate.  But but… you win some, you lose some.  It is DEFINITELY NOT Paraben-free.

The Experience

Hamilton Skin Therapy Cream Intense Moisturiser – I just applied it as I’m dying of thirst.  It is definitely moisturising!  It is even “oilier” than Cetaphil Moisturising Cream.  Which is just what I need to give my skin an instant boost and the much needed protective layer from the air conditioner.  It feels really good.  I would recommend it to people who work in the office and suffer from chronic dry skin.  But if your job, or your daily acitivities are more of outdoor nature, you will be OILY in the sun.

As for the snail mucus?  Shall blog about it soon!

If you have any suggestion on an instant dry skin relief (for really severe dry skin), do share.  My skin is feeling the Christmas spirit a little too ahead of time.

Biotherm Purefect Skin and Skin Ergetic Series

Sometimes, I just hate it when the counter girls are right.

“Lady, you don’t sleep much, do you?”

No, I don’t, thank you for asking.

I’m fresh as a bird if I can get 4 hrs sleep, with a cuppa coffee in the morning… “sleep?  What’s that?”

But not the face.  It shows, it betrays my purported “I’m awake!  I’m awake!  I can do maths!” facade.

Well, either your sleeping habit follows a timezone on the other side of the world, or, you’re a successful but burnt out corporate rat (may you be successful in all your endeavors), the counter girl was right to let me try this series of Biotherm meant for LETHARGIC and FATIGUE skin (yes, those words are on the adverts).

Whole bundle of Biotherm Purefect Skin sachets were handed to me, “There, take it, use it… you need it,” she said.

Now if you’ve read item 2, on The Purposes We Serve, I particularly distrust cosmetic claims for the solutions to oily skin.  But feeling pretty badass and riding on the whole YOLO wave, (and plus, it’s really a whole lot of samples!) I went ahead and by now, I’ve tried it for 3 days, hence I’m confident enough to do a review now.  Why 3 days?  Cause my face is like a urine test strip, suitable or not, my skin reacts to allergies in 3 days, whatever product it is.  When I upgrade my derma’s OS, there may be a meter to your kidney’s function.  Okay, lame joke.

I was given Purefect Skin Series specifically targeted for combination/oily skin :

1) Purefect Skin Cleanser – It’s gel texture and it’s colourless.  Now, that is hyper-reassuring.  Remember, Sensitive/Oily face, stay away from any form of cleanser no matter what the claims to be, use only GEL FORMULA.  Sorry I haven’t got a picture taken.  But you can find the official information here.  RM95.00

2) Purefect Skin Toner – This toner reminds me of why I don’t use a toner.  I haven’t used a toner for 3 years.  Upon application it’s a strong whiff of alcohol.  I then read the ingredients and alcohol is listed as the 2nd ingredient after Aqua.  It disperses fairly quickly.  I guess that’s one of the downside of Oil-Control products, alcohol always seems to be a preferred ingredient.  No discomfort or tight tingling sensation after application though.  RM98.00

3) Skin Ergetic Concentrate Serum – This serum serves to combat fatigue, and claims to visibly reduce the appearance of tired looking skin.  And it’s whole lot of natural essence packed in 1 serum.  Read official site for more info.  As for me?  Gel form? No problemo.  RM195.00

4) Pureskin Hydrating Gel : I like this.  In fact I like the whole series.  I was told to use this as a day moisturiser.  Gel form, no greasy after feel.  Makeup application goes on fine after.  It’s a nice gel, and it’s a nice hydrating gel.  Read Here.  RM135.00

Light textured gel form, non-greasy but hydrating.

5) Aquasource Nuit High Density Hydrating Jelly for Night – OH I love this one!  It is really Jelly!  Like Gel-Jelly!  With cute translucent light blue-ish colour.  It gets absorbed quickly into the skin but leaves your skin really smooth.  Because of it’s high hydrating power, it’s used as a night cream and… suitable to all skin types.  That I can testify to.  This morning, I wished it was winter here so I could use it day and night.  It’s that nice.  Read Here.  RM180.00

6) Skin Ergetic Eye Cream : It’s their latest launch if I’m not mistaken.  Anti Fatigue, packed with all the super power-charging nutritions and extracts.  Creamy texture, but gets absorbed quickly.  Patting my eyes half way in my OCD fashion and wham! it’s all absorbed and dried.  Read Here  RM160.00

Summary :

It’s passed my 3 days test.  While trying out this product I was suffering from funny breakouts as I had a trial of 3 days samples from Shiseido.  Biotherm did not add on to the funny allergic reactions, and the allergies went away pretty quickly.  Overall, it is a good line for combo/oily skin.  Specifically Skin Ergetic that targets really tired, really aged out face of mine.  I would recommend this to people who NEED this, cause the price is pretty steep.  But if you’ve tried all moderate range of products and they don’t seem to be working, this could be a good investment.

The cheapest financial option is to ignore all the skin problems, but requires the most expensive mental effort.

CHEERS!
