Dry Skin – To The Rescue (Part 3) – Kinerase

Finally, the epic trilogy to my Dry Skin condition has come to an end… or has it?

Again, that very week when I was held hostage in the hotel room, and my stupid idea of “packing light” meant I had no additional products to help me relieve of the ugly coarse dry skin.

But at The Lord’s mercy, a sweet lady, Ms. Susan, gave me some samples of Kinerase, which I kid you not, it’s been so raved about by other friends.

Kinerase Sample Set

The Experience

Truly, THANK GOD, this came at the best timing when I was going through the whole acute dry skin crisis.  When usually I avoid at all cost to use additional product that’s in the form of cream texture, but I embraced Kinerase C6 Peptide Intensive Treatment in conjunction with it’s Kinerase Cream.  Heck, I even used Kinerase C6 Peptide Intensive Treatment in the morning, bear in mind that it’s cream textured, and I would be heading out in the sun and all.  I love serum, essence and all those because it provides additional nutritions and benefits and penetrates beyond dermis.  But with this C6 Peptide, I didn’t care, cause I know I am totally at the mercy of it to salvage my beautiful face. *ahem*

But honestly, I am not using them long enough to see all the claims and benefits as stated in their clinical studies.  Although, it did rescue my face that very instant.  The Daily Gentle Cleanser was even more gentle than Biotherm Aquasource gel-mousse cleanser.  The Kinerase Eye Cream is nice, but it’s in light cream formula.  My personal preference is heavy eye creams, but if you wanna avoid oil seeds building around your eyes, light cream formula is the way to go.

The Conclusion

What’s so special about Kinerase though?  First off, again it is a medical grade skincare which is only available through prescriptions, clinics and specialists.  C6 Peptide, in short, creates a botox effect (most layman’s term possible).  Hence this is extremely suitable for post-cosmetic surgery skincare regime.  Also possibly one of the best anti-aging product in the market.

I would advice that you go ahead and try it out if you think you wanna step up your skincare game play.  They certainly don’t come cheap, but when it really works, it’s really worth it.

I’m gonna wait til I finish up my current loads of skincare and probably switch to Kinerase series, provided I don’t get astray and buy every online product I bump across online.

Dang, these things, draw me like a cat to katnip.

Oh!  For more information on Kinetin (just what the fluff is that?)  Do check out this website for a thorough understanding.  Cheers Y’all!

Dry Skin – To The Rescue (Part 2) – Atopiclair Lotion

Heya All,

Remember I had great friends?  And yes I do!

I was extremely fortunate that during my dry skin attack episode, my dear and sweet friend Lee Na, gave me a few packets of samples – Atopiclair Lotion.

What Is Atopiclair Lotion?

Atopiclair Lotion - Sampler

Atopiclair Lotion – Sampler

Atopiclair Lotion is a medical grade lotion primarily indicated for Atopic Dermatitis, approved by FDA.  It is one of the non-steroidal treatment of Atopic Dermatitis, by the sheer action of moisturising with many epic super duper nourishing ingredients to protect your skin from ugly breakouts.  It is also extremely suitable for sensitive skin as it is fragrance and paraben free.  Even gentle enough for infants of 6 mths to adults!

How Does Atopiclair Lotion Work?

It provides multi-modal action beyond skin barrier repair in atopic dermatitis.  How’s that you may ask?  Well, Atopiclair Lotion :

  • Repairs – with Hyaluronic Acid & Shea Butter, skin barrier is repaired by providing key physiologic lipids and powerful hydration.
  • Protects – with Vitis Vinifera (Grapevine), Temesteine & Vitamin C & E, skin barrier is protected through powerful anti-oxidant action.
  • CALMS – with Glycyrrhetinic Acid, this ingredient calms the itching and burning quickly through effective anti-pruritic and anti-inflammatory actions.

The Experience

I was very thankful that this came to the rescue while imprisoned in hotel rooms.  I was running out of my Rosken Cream.  My friend instructed that I should apply this lotion, Atopiclair, right out of the shower.  And so I did.  It immediately soothes dried up and irritated skin.  Setting free the sensation of really tightened and harsh skin surface.

Atopiclair Lotion - Product Content

Atopiclair Lotion – Product Content

I continued the usage for a few days and I grew to like it more.  It definitely helps in an air-conditioning environment.  Or on the other side of the globe, the winter season.  Most important of it all is its claims to calm itches and its anti-inflammatory properties.  As it is not just water based it is also lipid based, hence it increases the absorption than other regular lotion better.

The Conclusion

I would definitely recommend this product to people who suffer from the disease or chronic dry skin like me.  It is a wonderful lotion, you do feel a hinge of oiliness but it’s the good kind of oiliness, not the yucky sweaty type of oiliness.  And that very lipid is what you need, when you are in a harsh and dry environment that you cannot get out of.  However, an advice ahead, don’t use it if you are working in the sun cause the experience of the lotion melting may not score too highly in your books.  If you use it in winter/air conditioning environment that you skin just can’t seem to agree with, use it!  Spread that good juice all over.  It’s easily absorbed, and relieves you off the symptoms, prevents itching and thus prevents the scratching and the ugly, horrid scars.  (which I suffered for many years 😦 )

Do consult your local pharmacist or your doctor for consultation, as this is a medical grade lotion.

Dry Skin – To The Rescue! (Part 1) Mattifying Oil-Control Deep Pore Mask with OxygEnergy by Aviance.

I find myself really blessed to have friends who care!  I thought I was just whining away online about my chronic yet sudden acute dry skin, I didn’t mean to bother anybody.  But guess what?  I’ve been receiving care packages from friends 1 by 1!

Just this morning, dearest Lynn made her delivery boy 😛 send me something to salvage my skin problems.

First thing first, what happens when you’re on the road for 3 weeks straight?  Goodness, you need a thorough cleansing!  I’ve always had a jar of algae purifying mask stored in the fridge, which I use regularly for no less than 2-4 times a week, provided I’m not holed up in another hotel.

So I was given this sampler mask today, Mattifying Oil-Control Deep Pore Mask with OxygEnergy by Aviance.

Aviance Mattifying Oil-Control Deep Pore Mask with OxygEnergy

Aviance Mattifying Oil-Control Deep Pore Mask with OxygEnergy – 40g / RM115.00

How Does Aviance Mattifying Oil-Control Deep Pore Mask Work?

According to the catalogue:

“This delightfully refreshing, cleansing mask helps intensively remove impurities to reveal a clarified, shine-free and radiant complexion.  It has been formulated with purifying natural clay together with exclusive OxygEnergy which helps re-mineralize and revitalize the skin during use.  It leaves the skin naturally clarified, matte and absolutely revitalized.”

The Experience

Well, this might have been my mistake as I didn’t expect today to be a sunny day so the product was left my in car at its sunniest hours.  I’m not sure if that affected it.  Nonetheless the product is of a very thick texture, definitely not easy to spread.  But that also makes the fact that a very thin layer would suffice.

Aviance Mattifying Oil-Control Deep Pore Mask with OxygEnergy

The mask comes in the colour of cool mud green.

Doesn’t that remind you of wasabi?

The Mask comes with a practically sized spatula for hygiene purpose.

The Mask comes with a practically sized spatula for hygiene purpose.

As you can see, the products are beautifully packaged, another range of products that’s well thought out.

Although it appears to be the colour of “cool mud green”, upon application it is transparent entirely.  And with a thin layer applied, it would soon begin to harden and tighten.  Within minutes it would be so tight that breathing through the mouth isn’t a comfortable option, I am so down with the flu.  When I got up and looked at myself in the mirror I was literally SHOCKED.  Cause at that moment with the mask on, I had such a porcelain face, glossy and air brushed, the mannequin look.  I kinda wish I could wear this look all day, I could give up talking and just nod if I had to.  The tightening sensation was not bizarre to me as this type of mask is fairly common at salons.  I would even park this on the range of salon quality!

I set the timer to 20 minutes and I rinsed it off with water.  When mixed with water, it emulsifies.  I went back and checked myself in the mirror again, my face was RADIANT.  I kid you not, albeit it was a bit dry on the skin surface.  So I guess in that regards, it somewhat achieved the claim of “mattifying”.  But by goodness!  The radiance!

My friend, Lynn who owns this product says what’s most significant for her is the shrinkage of her pores, and if the wicked pimples suddenly bestow upon her flawless face, this would be the mask to her rescue.  The mask would dry up the blemishes whilst reducing the redness too.

The price is definitely on a higher end but given that it is a jar of 40g of merry goodness and each time you only need a thin layer, I would say it’s pretty worth the deal.  The most important thing is after you purchase it, you must use it regularly, especially useful when you come back from work and this mask with it’s specially trademarked technology OxygEnergy, it just helps your skin to breathe a little.

A Little Background on AVIANCE

I truly, truly love this brand.  So far the products I’ve purchased have never disappointed moi.  I am so head over heels for their Resilient Complex Ultimate Smoothing Double Caviar Eye Cream.  I’ll save this review for another day.  Anyway, have you heard of Unilever?  If not, you should have, because it’s ALL AROUND YOU!  Cause Unilever has been the motherfluffing boss of your everyday needs!  Brands like Rexona, Dove, Sunsilk, Breeze the detergent, to Lady’s Choice, Lipton, it’s all under the epic umbrella of Unilever.  That is why I have the absolute faith in their luxury line, Aviance.  Think of Unilever as the giant corporation that specializes in our every day needs with years of experience since the dawn of time.  Unilever no doubt has all the resources, research and development centres and infinite amount of data ever needed to create wonderful products, and brilliant marketing.  So there you have it, if we’ve been exposed to their everyday products by Unilever, it just gives me more reasons to be excited with Aviance.  The Resilient Complex Ultimate Smoothing Double Caviar Eye Cream was what turned my skepticism (like come on, you’re expensive, you know?) to a user that would stand by the brand.

–  Too much diarrhea, TL:DR.  This mask gives radiance finish, calms your redness and your blemishes, only it can be too dry on the skin surface, so follow-up moisturizing regime is necessary.

That is all.

Hello Beauties,

It’s about time that I bring you this post on THE BEST MASK!

Having missed the whole hype during its initial launch (many years ago), I only finally tried this Collagen Crystal Facial Mask sometime this year.  I was traveling when I bought this, after a customer commented on how old I’ve looked after a year.

And that incidence, it shone a light on the journey of masks, and emergency facial rescue.

This mask has truly stood out, in the pool of non-saloon masks.

So What Is A Collagen Crystal Facial Mask?

Collagen Crystal Facial Mask

Collagen Crystal Facial Mask

If you’re not familiar with what a crystal mask is, it is unlike a sheet mask, it has a jelly/gel like texture.  Instead of drying up like a sheet mask, crystal mask melts its essence into your skin from your natural body heat.  This crystal mask, makes some hefty claims to its benefits, and  the best thing is, it does deliver.

You can see the mask has melted to your body heat, and your skin is moist and hydrated with the essence melted off the collagen crystal mask.

What Are The Benefits of A Collagen Crystal Facial Mask?

The back of the packaging lists down fine details of benefits, instructions and ingredients.

The back of the packaging lists down fine details of benefits, instructions and ingredients.

Based on the label, it claims to have effects on:

  • Whitening
  • Moisturising
  • Anti-Wrinkle
  • Oil-Control
  • Pore Reducing
  • Hydration

Ingredients Of A Collagen Crystal Facial Mask

This mask comes compact with some impressive ingredients.  Not a lot of preservatives like common sheet masks.  Here are the ingredients:

Aqua, Glycerin, Polyinyl Alcohol, Sodium Polyacrylate, Tartaricacid, Grape Seed Oil (vitis vinfera), Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Tocophbryl Acetate (Vitamin E), BHT, Methylparaben, Fragaben, Fragrance, Phyto-Collagen, Aloe Vera, Green Tea Extract, Plum Extract

So How Good is The Crystal Collagen Facial Mask Really???

You can use this mask for 30 minutes long, or some choose to leave this overnight, for not more than 12 hours.  Whilst I’m not too used to sleeping with masks on, yet because the mask is so nutritious, I leave it on for 1 hour.

After 1 hour of application, freshly removed.

After 1 hour of application, freshly removed.

Here is the result of collagen crystal facial mask after 1 hour, freshly removed.  You can obviously tell the skin is so much more brightened, supple, and so hydrated!  Even when compared to a good sheet mask, the effect of brightening this collagen crystal mask achieves is much more capturing.  And you know what’s the REAL KEY BENEFIT?  The effects, they last for at least another day or two!  With sheet masks, the effects don’t carry forward to the next day, but this does!

Just last night I did it and this morning I woke up to a fantastic fair and even face, brightened up, all my fatigues washed away.

Collagen Crystal Facial Mask is also suitable for all skin types!

I have let a couple of friends try it and all come back with news of superior results.  Because of it’s formula, your skin is able to breathe as it doesn’t have any waxy substance suffocating your faces and masking your pores, all it does is just juicy substance slowly absorbed by your skin, hence it’s suitable for any skin type, even for acne prone skin.  Unless you are specifically allergic to the ingredients listed.

This is literally my Holy Grail of masks.  When I’m late for my facial appointment, this suffices to delay my appointments for another week.  Also with this mask, my skin just glows the next day, I tend to skip any foundation and just let the natural glowing face be beautiful on it’s own.

I like it so much, not only I bought just 1 but all the variations for specific purposes!

Help! My skin’s under attack!

Oh the distress I’m under!

I don’t know what’s going on, it’s like my skin’s going through a winter phase on its own, despite the humid weather in Malaysia, though it has been a little chilly these days.  My only guess is I have been traveling 3 weeks straight consecutively and so ever blasted by indoor air conditioning.

This has never really happened before but my skin all over, from my face to every other parts of my skin, is DRY DRY DRY.  And mind you, I use really pharmaceutical grade lotions and creams only.  A concoction of Physiogel, Cetaphil, Rosken and body wash entails Sebamed.  Nothing can go wrong, right? RIGHT?

Cetaphil Intensive Moisturising CreamRosken Skin Repair Dry Skin CreamPhysiogel Lotion

– Note that all of them are indicated for dry to very dry, dry to extra dry.

Just last week one morning, I used my Sebamed cleanser and I got lazy with the rest of the applications, within 5 hours, fine lines surfaced on my face!  My skin just looked so harsh and brittle.  Eww, THE HORROR… (tongue rolls out)

The Horrible Fine Lines

The Horrible Fine Lines

And it is sooooo NOT helping that, me and my stupid decision to “pack light”, I ended up not bringing any of my serum/essence/softener.  I can only rely on sheet masks to get myself through.

How bad does the skin get?

Okay, this is what went down.  Last week, I stayed with a couple of roomies that really enjoyed the bliss of air conditioning.  That night before dinner, we headed over to Parkson (again, mega air conditioning in the mall), and guess what, my skin broke by 7pm!  By that point whatever lipid, water was just dried out of my body.  My skin was no more than a 3000yr old mummy discovered in the desert.

Since it’s gonna be a few more days before I head back to the comfort of home, I bought myself some emergency kit.

3W Clinic Snail Mucus Lift EssenceHamilton Skintherapy Cream (Intense Moisturiser)

3W Clinic Snail Mucus Lift Essence
Hamilton Skintherapy Cream (Intense Moisturiser)

The Hydration Kit

  • 3W CLINIC SNAIL MUCUS LIFT ESSENCE – There’s so much rage with snail mucus.  When I first saw it I thought they used live snails in their potions.  Somewhere I read it has strong anti-inflammatory effect (I’m actually breaking out from Biotherm Aquasource, will blog about it, soon), I thought this would be a good way to go.
  • HAMILTON SKINTHERAPY CREAM (INTENSE MOISTURISER) – 10% Urea.  Hmm, really?  Splashing urine excrete on skin, did I just get a snake bite?  Here’s the highlight, it is FREE from Fragrance, Colour, lanolin, Propylene Gycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Sodium Laureth Sulphate.  But but… you win some, you lose some.  It is DEFINITELY NOT Paraben-free.

The Experience

Hamilton Skin Therapy Cream Intense Moisturiser – I just applied it as I’m dying of thirst.  It is definitely moisturising!  It is even “oilier” than Cetaphil Moisturising Cream.  Which is just what I need to give my skin an instant boost and the much needed protective layer from the air conditioner.  It feels really good.  I would recommend it to people who work in the office and suffer from chronic dry skin.  But if your job, or your daily acitivities are more of outdoor nature, you will be OILY in the sun.

As for the snail mucus?  Shall blog about it soon!

If you have any suggestion on an instant dry skin relief (for really severe dry skin), do share.  My skin is feeling the Christmas spirit a little too ahead of time.

Good Mask! My Scheming Masks 我的心机面膜

Here I am out of town again.  Without much entertainment, (actually, home or away) I frequently end up purchasing items that are not of immediate urgency.  Decided to pack light this trip, I brought along the travel trio pack of Biotherm Aquasource (This will be blogged about REAL SOON I promise), seriously forgotten about any serum/essence for the extra oomph.

Well, having not much to do my friend and I stepped into Watsons (again), and I bought myself 2 more masks from My Scheming!

1 I brought from home, 2 I just bought.

1 I brought from home, 2 I just bought.

They are each :

– My Scheming Pearl Whitening Mask (I’m getting curious about the effects of pearls, a lot of big cosmetic brands are listing or making it a key ingredient.)

– My Scheming Aloe Vera + Vitamin E Mask (This is more of what I like, logical, proven, and down to earth, no funky ingredients or sources that make u go, “eh?”)

– My Scheming Hyaluronan Acid + Sponge Cucumber Extract + Hydrating Silk Mask (Eh?)

So out of ’em three, I choose you, Aloe Vera + Vitamin E Mask.

For those who are more organic-conscious consumers, please note that propylene glycol is the 2nd main ingredient. I just noticed that.

For those who are more organic-conscious consumers, please note that propylene glycol is the 2nd main ingredient. I just noticed that.

Unlike the previous mask from My Scheming I posted, this has a different sheet.  It’s closer to a gel mask yet undoubtedly sheet (wait does it make sense?)  It kisses your skin perfectly, without lumps and bumps.

Can you see the oh-so-smoothness just sticks and kisses my face? Loving it!

Can you see the oh-so-smoothness just sticks and kisses my face? Loving it!

I put this on for 30 minutes, as usual.  One thing you might like to consider is the air-conditioner, as it dries up the mask faster than it should.  Better to have all the juicy essence be absorbed to your skin than let that stupid air-con to dry up your mask.

How did the result do?

The result was as expected, skin is brightened up.  Hydrated, from the inside.  It’s strange, somehow you can just see that the hydration comes from the inside.  Pretty cool isn’t it?

This is the result after 30 minutes of mask application.

This is the result after 30 minutes of mask application.

It doesn’t leave a layer of wax or melted kitchen wrap on your face like the previous Skinfood mask. You tap the remaining essence into your skin lightlly, and apply the remaining essence in the wrapper on your necks, collars, decollete if you will!

Beautiful.  Never falls below expectation.  As usual it delivers the 3 promises of Moisturization, Hydration and Brightening Effect.

So ladies, please head on down to Watsons and hoard up on those My Scheming Masks like they are the most nutritious can food for you to survive an apocalypse cause it’s going on Sales!  2 Masks for RM10.35 on the dot.

Man, year end sales is fun.

Review – Bio-Essence Multi-Effect BB Cream SPF25/PA++

Curiousity oh curiousity, why do you burn me with desires?

Ever since the birth of Ponds And Leaves, I’ve been told bout the convenience and all the wonderful usefulness of BB Creams.  At the peak of the whole hype few years ago, I did try once but it was just … really bad.  It costed over RM100, bad oil-control, colours didn’t look right, etc.  I never looked back since.  But curiousity got the better of me, more over this month, is a sinful, enticing month, everywhere I go it says Sales! all over.

So whilst away in another city alone, I walked around the little town with a hunger to kill, and wandered into Guardian store (Where’s the flipping connection here??!”)

From an initial intention to just BUY WHAT’S NEEDED, grabbing the Q-Tips, cotton pads and all, I got the BB Cream – Bio-essence Multi Effect BB Cream.  It just happened.  I just grabbed it, and bought it.  My guess is it’s been parading itself along with the sisters (the other BB creams) everytime I step into one of these drugstores.

Bio-essence Bio Multi Effect BB Cream SPF25PA++

Bio-essence Bio Multi Effect BB Cream SPF25PA++

(Sorry, I forgot to snap a pic of my own)

It was actually a wonderful opportunity to test the product out, as when I’m away in other towns I work by foot, walking from 1 retail to another in the hottest sun, by the traffic, the fumes, the humidity… PERFECT condition to test a product out.

Alas, without much luck, I don’t like the product at all.  The product comes out to be the colour of ash beige, if there’s ever such a colour.

This photo compliments the colour a little. The actual colour is duller than this.

This photo compliments the colour a little. The actual colour is duller than this.

Though the colour is darker than my real skin tone but it’s easily blendable.  But once blended, I realized how much work was needed!  Because the colour turns out to be so flat, and downright ASHY.  I never felt I needed blush more.  It was just really flat, takes away the natural glow on the face.  The whole face is just a flat ash beige.

Here is a comparison photo. With and without.

Here is a comparison photo.
With and without, especially noticeable on the forehead.

The light does not reflect off where it should be, losing my skin’s natural glow.  You know how you get that natural glow when your face is all cleansed and prepped?  Yeah, it’s gone.  Neither does this BB cream even out the dark circles.

With - Bio-essence Bio Multi Effect BB Cream SPF25PA++

(With) Bio-essence Bio Multi Effect BB Cream SPF25PA++

And… this is the WORST part, it brings out the bumpiness of my skin texture.  Yes, my flaws are there, that is why I buy products to conceal/even out the imperfections.  Whilst my pores are noticeable naturally, with the BB cream applied, it makes the whole face BUMPY.  I hope this picture shows the 2-dimensional of flat-ash I was talking about.

(without) - Bio-essence Bio Multi Effect BB Cream SPF25PA++

(without) – Bio-essence Bio Multi Effect BB Cream SPF25PA++

Whilst the naked skin has its flaws, but they exist in a natural state without calling for attention.  Also you can see the lights bounce off the skin on the naked skin.  It just has more life to it, you know?

The Verdict?

1)  Does it give luminous glow?  no.  The walkers from The Walking Dead have better  skintone than this.  I never felt blush as a “strong need” until I applied this.

2)  Does it even out the skin tone?  no.  It shouldn’t be done this way.  I still needed to conceal eye bags with a corrector.

3)  Does it cover up the imperfections and give you flawless skin?  HELL NO, SO MUCH THE OPPOSITE, REALLY.

4) Does it give a matte finish?  I’m asking myself silly questions. no no no no no, you don’t ash someone in the face and call it matte.

5) Does it last?  Okay given the credit it did last after all the sun, the sweat, the traffic and the humidity.  But once back in the hotel, all I wanted to do was to get rid of the makeup and let my skin breathe.

6) Ratings?  1/5.  0.5 for benefit of the doubt, 0.5 for not melting away.

But this is my sole experience alone, if you had great results with this, or you think BB cream is still worth a battle to fight, Do share!
